For the rest of the day, you’ll have to deal with that painful mouth burn, affecting what you can eat and possibly even impacting your speech. Unfortunately, since the burn is in your mouth there isn’t much you can do about it – or is there? Try a few of these remedies to soothe that painful, burnt tongue.

Suck on an Ice Cube
One of the easiest ways to soothe a burn is to counteract heat with something that is cold, and this is no different with the mouth. Pop an ice cube in your mouth or suck on a popsicle in order to numb the burn.

Breathe Through Your Mouth

Breathing through your mouth after burning your tongue is an easy way to provide some relief. The cold air that will hit your tongue can help to soothe it.

Grab a Yogurt

You may be surprised to know that yogurt is a wonderful remedy for soothing a burnt tongue. While Greek yogurt is recommended, any type of yogurt will do. Simply eat a spoonful after you burn your tongue and allow it to sit in your mouth for five seconds or so before you swallow it.

Try Vitamin E Oil

Vitamin E oil can make your burnt tongue feel better while also encouraging it to heal. All you’ll need to do is open up a vitamin E capsule and then spread the oil directly onto the burnt portion of your tongue.

Suck on a Cough Drop

Cough drops that contain local anesthetics like menthol, phenol, or benzocaine are a great way to provide relief for your tongue. Just make sure you are brushing your teeth frequently if you use this option so that the sugars found in cough drops don’t contribute to tooth decay.
